Tips For Bathing Your Horse

Bathing your horse can be a really fun experience for both of you or a really horrible one, depending how much your horse likes water. However, most horses love a good spa day. While bathing your horse may seem like a straightforward task, there are still many ways you can improve or make the experience as fun and as good as possible for your horse and for you. And getting them really clean is very useful for when you`re showing as well.

Dry Before Letting Out
We all know that every horse loves a good roll in the mud or the dirt immediately after they`ve been bathed. Irritating, right? All that hard work, down the drain is hard to watch. However, rather than letting your horse out while they`re still damp, allow them to dry inside or towel them off and put a sheet on them so should they choose to roll they won`t be as dirty.

Have The Right Tools
You can`t get a horse perfectly clean if you haven`t got the right tools for it. For hard and dried mud, you`ll need a rubber curry and you`ll need some brushes that vary from soft to hard. Then you`ll need your basics like a bucket, shampoo, hose, sponge and towel. And lets not forget a sweat scraper to get the majority of that water off their coats once you`re done.

Bathing your horse will be next to impossible if you haven`t got the tools to do the job right. Rather than aim for the cheapest, go for something more midrange, as the cheaper ones are likely to be ineffective and useless or annoying at best.

Don`t Forget About The Tail
Many people forget about brushing their horses` tail during bath time. It`s not the most pleasant part of bathing your horse, but it is necessary and can make a world of difference to the way it looks and how effectively they can use it.

Wash Horses Tail

Buy some detangling spray and work through it slowly with a comb, starting from the bottom. It`ll probably take you a while, but when it`s done you`ll be shocked by how amazing and shiny it looks. This is crucial if you`re going to be competing as well, as the horses` appearance is typically taken into account.

Reward Them
If your horse behaved well during bath time, don`t forget to give them a few treats to reward them for good behavior. This way, they`ll be unlikely to pull any tricks in the future, making bath time fun and enjoyable for you both.

Bathing your horse can be fun, but you should be sure to do these tips to ensure it goes smoothly and as efficiently as possible.
